What is the best crops for this system?

by Norm
(Toronto, Canada)

Hi Rick,
Your hydroponics video is truly inspirational, thank u for sharing. I live in Toronto Canada and am planning to build a system with like yours. I have a glass house extended at the back of my house but not so sealed. I planned to do this all year round, moving this unit indoor in the winter. What crops u think is good for the outdoor glass house vs indoors next to my window that gets the sun in the am? Except the lettuce. I am planning to plant swiss chard, collard, kale, spinach indoor in the winter. Thanks for your comment.

It's all about the light...
by: Rick from CGFF

Hi Norm,
Always tricky to answer these types of questions.
I'm guessing you won't be able to grow much in the winter, even in the hydroponics system unless you introduce some sort of artificail lighting to the setup. From personal experience I have found that in the winter months the natural light just isn't strong enough to produce any kind of worthwhile growth. The natural light just isn't at the right frequency. On the other hand, in the summer months you should be able to grow almost anything you want in it as long as it is getting enough light.

Best advice I can give is to experiment and learn from your own individual setup. Try differnt things and see what works.

Hope this helps in some way.
