Too Much Water... I Think

by Peggy
(Charleston, SC)

Thank you so much for your watering tip. I am new to container gardening as we are doing our first "gig" as a RV workamper. I planted these gorgeous tomato plants about 4 weeks ago and they have now developed a few yellow leaves at the bottom.

I was told to pour the water on them... that I couldn't water them too much, but I had a gut feeling that I WAS watering them too much. Tomorrow, I will start testing the soil better by checking how wet or dry it is further into the pot. I don't have a way to water from below, but hopefully, I'll quit drowning them. I do have some young fruit, so, I'm hoping they will mature.

This will be my first success at growing anything other than ivy. Wish me luck!

It could be a lack of nutrients...
by: Rick

Hi Peggy,
Good luck with your tomato plants.

When the tomato plant is not getting enough water, the plant tends to droop and the leaves will start to curl up.

If this is not the case, then the yellow leaves could be a lack of nutrients. Watering in some plant food could put you back in business.

Hope this helps

Rick
