Gardening Frustration

by Jacynthe
(Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada)

This is my first attempt at container gardening this year. I started small as I only had 4 tomato plants, 1 bucket with green beans and 1 with sweet peppers. Well, this summer (if you want to call it that) has been one of the wettest we've had in decades. My peppers were devoured by slugs and my tomatoes are getting tons of foliage and is taking forever just to produce blooms. I'm just now getting baby tomatoes and I think I might get lucky if I have tomatoes by Christmas. I live in New Brunswick, Canada and we haven't had more than two days in a row of sun and the temperature hasn't gone over 30 celcius all summer. The beans are finally getting to a size that you can eat them. Oh yeah, and the skunks have been digging massive holes in front of the garden area of the lawn. I don't know what I did wrong but this is so frustrating. Hope next year works out better. I've been salivating all summer in the hopes of getting at least one tomato to make a sandwich and that doesn't even look promising anymore. :-(

I know exactly how you feel, I have that problem in the summer too. I have given up trying to grow vegies in our summer. I am hoping for some success this year so far so good although we are still in our winter. My advice is keep trying. good luck keep us informed.
